Belleville Library

Our real estate agents know the Belleville area well, and one of the things they like most is how active and involved the community is. The Belleville Library is an example of where this community focus shines the brightest. The library not only houses a bountiful collection of books and other media but also hosts several fun events every year. If you're new in town, here are some more things you might like to know about the Belleville Library.

  • Hours and Locations
The Belleville Main Library is located at 121 E. Washington St. They're open from 9 am - 8 pm Monday - Thursday and 9 am - 5 pm Friday and Saturday.

There's also a West Branch Library, which is a great place to visit for a book if you don't want to drive across town. This branch is located at 3414 West Main St. They're open Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 9 am - 5 pm and Tuesday and Thursday from 12 pm - 8 pm.

  • History
The Belleville Library has quite a rich and vibrant history. In the 1830s, the library was operated out of the home of Dr. Anton Schott. It then moved several times before opening in its current location on East Washington Street in 1916. The building's construction was largely funded by the Carnegie Corporation.

  • Programs and Activities
The Belleville Library is really well known for their Mobile Library, a collection of equipment that community members can borrow. This collection includes a 3D printer, large yard games like Giant Jenga and Connect Four, and even a couple of programmable drones.

  • Youth Programs
The library also offers some programs, especially for kids. They work alongside Beanstack, a tracking program that helps readers keep track of the books they've read. The library also offers a variety of Tumble Book educational resources for their youngest members.

  • Archives and Geneology
The Belleville Library is also very involved with maintaining the town's history and archives. You can browse their archives and genealogy collections on the second floor of the Main Library.

Another key attraction of the library is their collection of yearbooks. They have local High School and Junior College yearbooks dating back to the 1930s! If you have any older yearbooks from area schools, the library would love to borrow them and digitize any that are missing from their collection.

The library is truly one of the best parts of living in Belleville, but don't take our word for it. Pay the library a visit and check out some books that appeal to you.
