Belleville Walking Trails

Going for a walk or a bike ride is one of the most convenient ways to get exercise. It's also a nice way to enjoy some scenery and get to know the local area. While you can always walk down the sidewalk and explore your neighborhood, there are also some awesome trails in the Belleville area. Our real estate agents recommend strolling or cycling along these trails when you get the chance.

  • Metro-East Levee Trail: 107 Elm St., Cahokia, IL 62206
If you're looking at Cahokia homes for sale, the start of this trail is just minutes away, outside the Cahokia Courthouse. You can follow the trail east for 7.6 miles. Since the trail surface is gravel, hiking is recommended, although mountain bikes are permitted.

Along the Metro-East Levee Trail, you'll see ponds, forests, and sprawling fields. The route passes by the Beautiful Prairies Golf Club, which is always nicely landscaped. There's little shade along the trail, so it can get hot mid-day in the summer.

  • MetroBike Link Trail: Frank Scott Parkway, Belleville, IL 62226
The MetroBike Link Trail is easy to pick up at the Memorial Hospital MetroLink Station on Frank Scott Parkway. It leads all of the way to the Shiloh-Scott MetroLink Station in Shiloh, IL. This is a flat, asphalt path that is suitable for walking and road bikes. You could even in-line skate down the path if you wanted!

This 9.6-mile trail is near Belleville homes for sale, and it takes you past a mixture of scenery, from residential neighborhoods to farmland. You'll pass the Belleville YMCA and ride over a scenic bridge at Green Mountain Road.

  • Richland Creek Greenway Trail: W. Cleveland Ave. and 3rd St., Belleville, IL 62226
The Richland Creek Greenway Trail is a 3.6-mile trail stretching from Swansea to Belleville. The asphalt surface makes it perfect for walking, cycling, and in-line skating. On the north section of the trail, you'll weave through quiet woods, and further south, you'll walk through neighborhoods and parks.

Richland Creek Greenway Trail passes a gorgeous pond and some unique sculptural artwork. About halfway through, it intersects with the MetroBike Link Trail.

  • Orchard Loop Bike Path: 2719 Eckert Orchard Ln., Millstadt, IL 62260
The Orchard Loop Bike Path bisects Eckert's Family Farm, a local farm a few miles outside Belleville. You can park at the farm and follow the trail for approximately 3 miles to the spot where it meets the MetroBike Link Trail. Or, continue along the MetroBike Link Trail for a longer ride.

This path is nicely paved and family-friendly. It mostly passes rural land and beautiful orchards. Stop by the farm stand for a snack when you're done biking or walking!

  • Centennial Park Loop: 311 N. Belt E., Swansea, IL 62226
If you're in the mood for a shorter walk near Swansea homes for sale, this 1-mile loop trail is a great choice. It encircles Centennial Park, offering nice views of the lake. There's plenty of shade along the trail, making it a good choice for hot days.

Centennial Park Loop is a good place to spot wildlife, including deer and ducks. You'll walk over a couple of bridges, too! Dogs are welcome as long as they are leashed.

Exercise does not have to be boring. In fact, if you exercise by walking or cycling down one of these paths, you'd have a very hard time being bored. Get out there, and admire the scenery around Belleville! Don't forget to contact us if you're looking for a real estate agent in the area.
